Jamie makes mixed doubles cut

Final cut: Jamie Murray with short hair

Jamie Murray is sporting a new look and a new partner but it's the same old story in the mixed doubles with the Scot homing in on back-to-back titles.

Last summer Murray and Serbian star Jelena Jankovic claimed the mixed doubles title. This time Andy's brother is sharing the court with American Liezel Huber and they've quickly got into their stride to reach a third-round clash later today with sixth seeds Julian Knowle of Austria and Taipei's Yung-Jan Chan.

After beating Russia's Dmitry Tursunov and Nadia Petrova 6-2, 2-6, 9-7 in gathering gloom last night Murray, looking sharp after 18 months of hair growth had been shorn, said: "We know we're one of the better teams out there, especially on grass.

"If we play well together then we've got a very good chance to go far in the tournament. Against the Russians we played a really good first set then I completely stuffed my service game.

"It was a battle from then because those two are good singles players, which makes it tough. But we fought hard and it came right in the end."

That success made up for the disappointment of Murray and Max Mirnyi of Belarus being beaten in the men's doubles by second seeds Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.

Murray said: "We were obviously underdogs for the match and those guys played very well and served very, very well. I let myself down on serve throughout the match and that's something to improve if you're going to try to get to the top of the game."

And what about the top of his head? Murray smiled and recalled: "I've been kind of saying for a few days that I quite liked the idea of shaving it. I went for it, and that was that."
