The Leicester team should be recognised on the Queen’s honours list, according to the Professional Footballers’ Association chief executive Gordon Taylor.

The Foxes clinched a maiden Premier League title following Tottenham's draw with Chelsea on Monday, upsetting pre-season odds of 5,000-1 to guarantee finishing above the league's heavyweights with two games to spare.

The successful squad cost seven times less than Manchester City's to put together and Taylor believes their fairytale should be acknowledged.

Indeed, the PFA chief has called on the Secretary of State for Defence and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to exercise their put the team forward for honours.

“It goes beyond football what they’ve done.” He said.. “It remains to be seen if the choice to add them to the honours list comes from The Cabinet, but I would hope so. As football goes it’s probably, in my lifetime, one of the finest achievements I’ve seen.

“Special success stories come from different areas of life. Leicester have shown that sport and football are a very important part of the fabric of this country. They give hope to any team who think they can never make it to top.”
