A draw was not the start England would have wanted to the Euros – particularly given the timing of Russia’s equaliser – but given the format of the competition they could even lose against Wales in their next match and still go on to qualify for the knock-out stages.

The four best-placed third teams will go through to the knock-out stages, so there is no need to panic after just one match.

Of course, England coach Roy Hodgson will not be thinking of anything other than a win against their next opponents Wales, who are the early pacesetters in Group B.

England are still favourites to win the group – BetVictor offer evens – but Wales are now 85-40 following their opening win. You can get 6-4 on England and Wales being the top two teams in the group. It is 7-4 on England winning their remaining two group fixtures and 16s on them losing both.

Where to watch Euro 2016 in London

Hodgson’s men, who eased to 9-1 from 8s to win the Euros following their opening match, are 4-7 to see off Wales in Lens.

The England players will know all about the threat of former Tottenham player Gareth Bale, who is 13-2 to break the deadlock and 2-1 to score at any time. The Welsh wizard can also be backed at 19-2 with BetVictor to score from outside the box and he is 20s to get a goal in each half.

Eric Dier was trimmed to 8-1 from 50s to be England’s top scorer in the tournament after his free-kick goal in the 1-1 draw against Russia – Harry Kane is still the favourite at 15-8. The Three Lions are 5-1 to be eliminated from the tournament at the group stage and the same price to exit in the semis.

In the outright market, France are 7-2 favourites for glory, followed by 4-1 shots Germany and Spain.
