The King is back
We can't help falling in love with Elvis, it would seem.
Half a century since his first No.1, the King has reclaimed his crown at the top of the British singles chart.
A re-release of Jailhouse Rock last night became the 999th No.1 in chart history - more than 27 years after the crooner's death.
And he is tipped for the 1,000th top spot next week with a re-issue of 1958 double A-side One Night/I Got Stung.
Elvis Presley's 18 previous charttoppers are being re-released, week by week, to commemorate what would have been his 70th birthday.
Fans around the world held wild celebrations on Saturday to mark the anniversary of his birth in 1935 and a giant cake was unveiled on the lawn of his Graceland mansion in Tennessee.
Superfan Dawn Marchand has transformed her home in Croydon, Surrey, into a glitzy shrine to the King and spent the weekend watching all his movies back-to-back.
The obsession clearly runs in the family. Her son, Gary, is a professional Elvis impersonator and even her greatgrandson is a devotee.
Mrs Marchand, who is planning her seventh trip to Graceland, said: 'The King was unique - there will never be anyone like him.
'I do keep wondering what he'd look like now, though.'
Wonder no more. Scientists at St Andrew's University have created a computer-generated image of what a 70-year-old Elvis might look like.
As well as his 19 British No.1s, the King has had 42 top ten songs and 21 top 20s. In the US, 20 of his singles hit the top, with 22 top tens and 32 top 20s.
