The family of a British schoolboy killed in an avalanche while skiing in Austria told of their anguish today.

Cameron Bespolka, 16, described by friends as a “truly wonderful human being”, was engulfed in snow with father Kevin, 51, and a ski guide as they rode off-piste in the resort of Lech am Arlberg.

The teenager, one of triplets, died at the scene on Tuesday despite a desperate attempt by brother Nicholas to save him. Their father, a City banker, is in intensive care with knee and lung injuries.

The family, including mother Corrine, third triplet Megan and sister Sienna, 13, had left for the holiday last Friday from their home in Winchester. Cameron had tweeted: “And now for Heathrow!! Should be a nice relaxing week.” The next day, the keen birdwatcher added: “Had a lovely day ... mega views of a Golden Eagle.”

Today Megan, who was not skiing with the group, retweeted lyrics by band The Script which read: “They say bad things happen for a reason.”

Relative Carl wrote online: “Rest in peace Cam. You were my closest and farthest friend. Tweet tweet ..... I hear the birds for you.” Schoolfriend Hugo Jennings paid tribute to Cameron as “a truly wonderful human being and positive man”.

The ski instructor, 39, suffered minor injuries .He is being investigated for suspected negligence.
