Film tribute to Harrison

Sir Paul McCartney spoke of his love for fellow Beatle George Harrison at a tribute evening to his bandmate.

Accompanied by his heavily pregnant wife Heather he attended a gala screening at the Odeon in Leicester Square of a behind-the-scenes documentary about last year’s tribute concert to Harrison, who died in 2001.

Sir Paul said: “We loved him. He was a lovely man.”

Sir Paul seemed irritated when Heather was asked if it was true the baby they are expecting next month is a boy. She looked stony faced, Sir Paul said: “I don’t think you can ask that kind of question.”

Earlier he had fallen victim to a radio prankster who telephoned pretending he was the Prime Minister of Canada.

Canadian radio DJ Marc Audette pretended to be Jean Chretien, telling Sir Paul he had been awarded the Order of Canada and inviting him and Heather to dinner. Sir Paul failed to twig to the joke even when “Chretien” began slipping Beatle song titles into the conversation.
