As suave, smooth-talking James Bond, he knows how to impress the ladies. So perhaps it’s no surprise Pierce Brosnan celebrated his wife’s birthday in a way 007 would have been proud of.

The actor arranged to meet his real-life Bond girl, Keely Shaye Smith, on a pier in Malibu, California, before whisking her off in a huge yacht for a two-day cruise to mark her 39th birthday.

And there were more surprises in store for the lucky birthday girl. Brosnan
showered her with gifts — including a £50,000 soft-top BMW and diamond-studded
jewellery.

Shaye Smith, a writer and actress, was dropped off at the pier with the couple’s two children, Dylan, six, and Paris, two. She and Brosnan passionately embraced before the family got into a small speedboat that took them to the yacht moored off the coast.

“Pierce seemed very excited,” an onlooker said. “He had it all planned out.
You could see the yacht in the bay offshore. It looked big and expensive and I’m sure it set him back a bit.”

Brosnan had hired a gourmet chef to serve up his wife’s favourite dishes on the yacht, and stocked up on champagne.

“Pierce wanted to make sure he did everything he could to give Keely the time of her life,” a source added. “Knowing what a devoted mum Keely is to Dylan and Paris, and knowing she wouldn’t be happy leaving them behind, he made arrangements to bring them and their nanny along.”

Brosnan, 50 — whose next Bond role is in Everything Or Nothing, to be released next year — married Shaye Smith just over two years ago in a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in Ireland.

The couple were forced to postpone their wedding twice — first because Sean,
his son by his late first wife Cassandra Harris, was involved in a near-fatal car crash in 1999, and again when Shaye Smith became pregnant in 2000.

A friend of the couple said: “Pierce wanted to do something really special for Keely’s 39th. He has already showered her with just about every gift possible so, in an effort to come up with something new, he chartered a yacht.

“Keely still can’t believe her good fortune and even though there was a time when she wondered if they would ever marry, she now thanks God for each and every day she spends with the man she calls Prince Charming.”
