October means serious business for new restaurant and bar openings, as creatives compete to lay down their dust sheets first, in order to open – and then forge a steady reputation – by Christmas.

Of the big names, Dishoom launch their fourth Bombay café on Kingly Street this month. Queues form like clockwork, but this buzzy destination dining hub is undercover and a fine place to spend time atmosphere-soaking while you wait.

The Ivy owners Caprice Holdings also continue to evolve with the launch of a fish-only restaurant Sexy Fish in Mayfair, which will display millions of pounds of “cutting edge” art.

And Foxlow, the neighbourhood restaurant from from the Hawksmoor team, is to launch its third branch in Chiswick.

Then there's a Vietnamese restaurant where everything is folded, a Sri Lankan pancake spot, meatballs galore and meaty action in Brixton – and that's just for starters.
