Wimbledon gets under way on Monday after a year hiatus, following last year’s event being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ahead of the tournament’s return, we pick out a trio of highlights for day one of the third Grand Slam of the year.

Andy Murray vs Nikoloz Basilashvili

Murray’s return to Wimbledon singles action for the first time since playing virtually on one leg in his 2017 quarter-final against Sam Querrey has been hotly anticipated.

Drawn against the No24 seed, he faces a potentially tough opening but his Georgian opponent has never been past the third round at Wimbledon.

That said, he reached the final in Halle at his grasscourt warm-up event.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Frances Tiafoe

The second match on No1 is arguably the most mouth-watering between two of the rising stars of the men’s game.

Tsitsipas should have the ideal game for the grass but only once in three attempts has made it past the first round here.

However, he is enjoying the best season of his life and has marked out Wimbledon as his No1 target in 2021.

Dan Evans vs Feliciano Lopez

The British No1 begins his Wimbledon campaign on No2 Court in a tricky tie against a player who is most at ease on the grass – a three-time quarter-finalist at SW19.

Just two months shy of his 40th birthday, Lopez is not quite the athlete he once. Evans will be desperate to make his mark at his home slam.
