Saturday's pre-season friendly between Premier League rivals Brighton and Chelsea will see 2,500 home fans in attendance after the Government announced a further series of test events for the return of spectators to elite sport in the UK.

A match involving the Seagulls and yet-to-be confirmed opponents at Amex Stadium on Sunday (August 30) was first on a list of events published by the Department for Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS) on Wednesday.

However, Brighton subsequently released a statement to confirm that the game would be against Chelsea and take place on Saturday.

The club said that 2,500 tickets for the match will now be made available to Brighton season-ticket holders and 1901 Club members, with sales to be based on loyalty points, staggered across priority windows and not available on the day of the game.

However, there will be no tickets offered to Chelsea fans, with Brighton confirming they are not allowed to admit visiting supporters.

"To conform with the government’s track-and-trace rules, booking a ticket for this match requires you to ensure your personal and contact details are all up to date, and you have provided the club with a current working mobile phone number," Brighton's statement added.

Also on the DCMS list of events that will welcome spectators in a limited capacity is the Women's Super League (WSL) fixture between West Ham and Arsenal, due to take place at Dagenham & Redbridge's Chigwell Construction Stadium on September 12.

The other football matches included are the friendly between Lewes FC and London Bees on August 30 and Non-League Finals Day - featuring the FA Vase and FA Trophy Finals - at Wembley Stadium, which is scheduled for September 20.

Meanwhile, rugby union's first match with fans back in attendance will be the Premiership encounter between Harlequins and Bath at The Stoop on September 5.

Horse racing will permit racegoers at the St Leger Festival between September 9-12 next month in addition to a meeting at Warwick Racecourse on September 21 and the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket Racecourse on September 24.

In cricket, Bob Willis Trophy matches and T20 Blast fixtures are set to allow fans in late August and early September, while the British Basketball League (BBL) pre-season exhibition encounter at the Eagles Community Arena in Newcastle on September 18 will also include fans, along with the British Speedway Final at Ipswich's Foxhall Stadium on September 26.
