Demi Lovato has joined forces with Billie Eilish’s songwriting brother for a scathing anti-Trump song, just weeks before the US election.

The singer, 28, has shared punchy ballad Commander in Chief, and has since promised to perform it at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards.

The song, which was written by Lovato, Finneas O’Connell and singer Julia Michaels never directly names Donald Trump, but points towards the president and his actions over the last year.

Commander in Chief also makes reference to the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement, which gained momentum after George Floyd, a black man, died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

Lyrics include: “If I do the things you do I couldn’t sleep, seriously, do you even know the truth?”, as well as: “How does it feel to still be able to breathe?” and “We’ll be in the streets while you’re bunkering down.”

As well as promoting the track on Instagram, Lovato, who split with fiancé Max Ehrich earlier this year, has also been encouraging her fans to vote.

“I'm calling on all of you, please join me in voting for this year’s election,” she wrote to her 93 million followers.

Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden is currently ahead in the polls for the US election, reportedly 17 points ahead of Trump.

As the election now enters its final stages, Trump has been holding a number of rallies in a bid to boost support, just days after he was diagnosed with coronavirus.

Having been released from hospital following experimental treatment, the 74-year-old told crowds in Florida: “I feel so powerful.

“I’ll walk into that audience. I’ll walk in there, I’ll kiss everyone in that audience. I’ll kiss the guys and the beautiful women – everybody.”

The US Election with take place on Tuesday, November 3.
