Autumn is the signal for most airlines to cut the frequency of their flights from London to prime holiday hotspots, creating a headache for owners who want year-round access to their second homes.

Here are two new services, both to familiar destinations, that should speed the journey to the sun or slopes.

TENERIFE

The largest Canary Island is well-served by flights from Gatwick but BA has new winter flights from Heathrow starting from October 21 to the end of March next year with return fares from £98.

From £550,000 to £1.51 million: flats, plots and villas at five-star Abama Golf & Spa resort in Tenerife

Tenerife’s mild weather, with November temperatures averaging 20C, plus its strong infrastructure make it a winter playground for golfers, cyclists and anyone else who likes to be outdoors. Abama Golf & Spa is 30 minutes from the airport on the south-west coast.

As part of a five-star Ritz Carlton Resort opened in 2005 it has a challenging golf course, a spa, tennis courts and 10 restaurants on a beautifully maintained 400-acre site.

Fully furnished one- to four-bedroom flats at Las Terrazas start at £550,000. Golf course plots have permission for three- and four-bedroom detached homes, while six completed villas with pools at Bellevue are £1.51 million.

In December easyJet will offer weekly Gatwick to Klagenfurt flights with single fares from £32.49. This city in southern Austria has a pretty Old Town, acclaimed museums and galleries and a strong summer season thanks to its location on Wörthersee, one of Europe’s warmest lakes.

The uncrowded airport is less than an hour from several good ski resorts. Klagenfurt is the capital of Carinthia, an area with Alpine peaks and some 100 lakes that borders Italy and Slovenia. Fifty minutes away Bad Kleinkirchheim is an historic spa town and one of Austria’s largest ski areas with over 60 miles of pistes.

Alpine Marketing is selling Hunting Lodge Chalets, 14 fully furnished and managed three-bedroom ski-in and out homes based around tennis courts, a spa and fishing lake. They must be rented for part of the year. Owners can get a guaranteed three per cent return for three years. Prices start from £358,500 for 914sq ft to 1,184sq ft.
