Awkward moment BBC weatherman says he is 'not a massive fan' of Rick Astley... while singer is listening in

A BBC weatherman said he was not a Rick Astley fan live on air while the British singer was listening in ahead of an interview.

After finishing his weather report, Matt Taylor was asked by BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt if he was a Risk Astley fan, to which Mr Taylor replied: "Er, not a massive one."

Unbeknown to Mr Taylor, Mr Astley was listening in before appearing on the morning show.

"That was the wrong thing to say, he's listening because he's coming up in just a moment," Mr Stayt said to Mr Taylor, who looked around awkwardly.

Mr Stayt then asked: "Can I ask you again? Are you a Rick Astley fan?"

This time, Mr Taylor nodded and said: "Love Rick Astley."

The camera then turned to Mr Astley, who was seen laughing hysterically.

Mr Stayt said: "He's coming up next, so he will be very pleased to hear that.

"There he is, he's listening in, he's heard everything you said Matt.

"The damage is done."

Mr Taylor quipped: "That's brilliant, thanks Charlie."

Later, Mr Astley replied to BBC Breakfast's clip of the awkward moment on Twitter with a laughing face, saying: "All is forgiven."

Mr Taylor replied: "You sir are a true gent! Thank you."

Responding to the debacle on Twitter later, Mr Taylor added: "Note to self... Charlie isn’t always trying to make me do something silly, like sing, on air (hence my response).

"AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, make sure you check who is on the programme after you."
