Tennis fever is sweeping the country once again as crowds descend on SW19 to watch players slog it out for the coveted Wimbledon 2017 championships titles.

The All England Club sees almost 500,000 spectators visit during the 13-day period every year and this 2017's tournament - now celebrating its 140th anniversary - looks set to be bigger and better than ever with thousands heading to this pocket of south-west London over the weekend in the hope of securing much sought-after grounds tickets.

Yet for legions of fans up and down the country, the ultimate prize is undoubtably a home with its own court.

"If the choice is between a tennis court and a pool, the buyer will usually opt for a tennis court due to their multiple usages, and unlike a pool, there are no running costs," says Joanna Cocking, Head of Prime & Country House at Hamptons International."

And what could be better than a Kentish country bolthole in 200 acres with cottages, courts and plenty of character?

Or, if the budget doesn't quite stretch to an entire estate, a home in south-west London comes with rear garden access to a shared tennis court run by a small members-only club near Wimbledon.

"The maintenance is so simple that buyers don’t even usually ask about upkeep," says Joanna Cocking.

"One previous client made great use of their tennis court and turned it into a multi-functional sports space with netball, tennis and basketball - all great for older children,” she adds.
