Many of London's most historic warehouses and former riverside factories are being transformed into sleek city retreats with lofty proportions.

First was the printing works of Summer Street in Clerkenwell in the early Nineties, followed shortly afterwards by the chic riverside warehouse conversions of Shad Thames, Wapping and the former industrial buildings of Bermondsey

The appeal of loft living certainly hasn't lessened over time. In fact, there seems more of an appetite to live in quirky warehouses and former factories than ever, with empty nesters downsizing from large family homes in exchange for a pad at the heart of London's vibrant cultural scene.

This, coupled with second-steppers trading up from small new-build flats, means the demand for gritty and original architecture combined with chic interiors and contemporary styling is stronger than ever.

According to a recent report, Londoners pay premiums of up to 93 per cent for Thames views, so perhaps a penthouse in the former Old Courage Brewery, with breathtaking views of Tower Bridge from five terraces, might take the fancy of a buyer with deep pockets.

Or, for the warehouse deal of the year, Lady Gaga's fashion designer's home is for sale for £3.5 million after an £850k price drop.
