Downsizing in luxury: Fulham’s “lost” riverside homes are a hit with the Kensington and Chelsea set

Kensington and Chelsea money is reaching Fulham, where new homes are luring buyers to cash in and go for more space in an “affordably prime” postcode on the desirable north side of the Thames.

This drift across the border repeats a Seventies trend, when a similar spillover triggered the first round of Fulham gentrification. In came young, middle-class buyers and renters, displacing the area’s older skilled workers, and within a few years the face of Fulham transformed.

Now the area is changing again. The huge Earl’s Court redevelopment is boosting the area around Brompton Cemetery. Meanwhile, developers continue to discover Fulham’s “lost” riverside, creating luxury flats for affluent downsizers.
