Netflix has revealed the latest trailer for the upcoming new season of The Crown, which will document the romance between Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and Princess Diana (Emma Corrin).

The one and a half minute trailer features the voice of the Archbishop of Canterbury character, Robert Runcie, deliver the speech that was heard at the pair’s wedding in 1981.

As he declares “here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made”, the trailer also reveals the more fractious side of the couple's marriage.

The trailer also includes clips of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher.

Ahead of the trailer’s release, Netflix teased the show’s return on Twitter, posting first look photos of some of the season’s upcoming moments. Snaps of Anderson, Corrin and their co-stars in character were shared alongside the caption, “Change is coming.”

Princess Diana marks Corrin’s first major role, at just 24 years old.

In an interview with Vogue magazine, the actor explained she developed a great sense of empathy for the late princess as she researched the character.

“I feel I’ve got to know Diana like you would a friend,” she said.

“I know that sounds really weird, but I get a great sense of companionship from her. I suppose, over time, you kind of start to patch together a sense of empathy and a sense of understanding. I love figuring people out.”

The fourth season will be the last outing for the current cast, before they are replaced once more for the fifth and six seasons – with the final season thought to be bringing the royal saga into the 2000s.

Elizabeth Debicki is set to take over the role of Princess Diana for the final two seasons, while Imelda Staunton will play an older Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown season four will be available to watch on Netflix from Sunday November 15.
