Ben Chilwell insists he is recovering well from injury after joining Chelsea from Leicester City.

The England left-back put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday after completing a transfer worth £50million.

Chilwell is expected to be a regular starter and fill a problem position for Frank Lampard, with the 23-year-old having already voiced a desire to emulate Ashley Cole's career in west London.

However, it remains to be seen exactly when he will be available to make his Chelsea debut, having missed the end of Leicester's 2019/20 campaign with a heel injury.

Such an issue also ruled Chilwell out of contention for England selection ahead of Uefa Nations League matches against Iceland and Denmark in September.

The former Huddersfield loanee will not be in line for his Chelsea debut on Saturday, when Lampard's side take on Brighton - who they also face in their first Premier League match of the new season - in a pre-season friendly at Amex Stadium that will see up to 2,500 home fans in attendance following the Government's announcement of further pilot test events on Wednesday.

However, he hopes to be ready for action soon having made strong progress with his recovery over the summer.

"Obviously over the last four or five weeks I've been doing a lot of fitness, what I can," Chilwell told Chelsea's official website.

"The injury is healing really well, so hopefully not too long until I'm back on the pitch."
