Lindt is launching a vegan chocolate range made from oat milk

Plant-based pals, rejoice: the world’s most indulgent chocolatier, Lindt, is launching a vegan version of its signature chocolate.

While the range made from oat milk won’t include its signature truffles, it will include three flavours of chocolate bars, including salted caramel, cookie and hazelnut.

The new bars are part of its HELLO range, and will be wrapped in recyclable packaging.

However, the range will initially only be available in Germany, launching in November.

While there’s no word on when (or if) it will be coming to the UK, last year fellow chocolatier Galaxy announced it was bringing a vegan range to the UK, becoming the first large brand to offer a plant-based alternative to milk chocolate.

The vegan Galaxy bars were announced in three flavours: caramelised hazelnut, caramel and sea salt and smooth orange.

At the time, Kerry Cavanaugh, marketing director at Mars Wrigley UK said: “We’re so excited to be bringing these delicious treats to Galaxy’s range using a vegan recipe that doesn’t compromise on the brand’s signature smooth and creamy characteristics.

“Wherever you look you can’t avoid the vegan buzz in the UK. Even though vegan treats are currently only worth £10 million in a £4 billion chocolate market, we think that by introducing Galaxy, one of the UK’s best-known brands, there is a huge opportunity for the category to grow.”

At the time, a Mondelez spokesperson said: “We’re always listening to our consumers so we can develop and provide people with greater choice. This includes looking at a plant-based Cadbury Dairy Milk bar.

“However, we have no immediate plans to launch. We are only interested in launching a new vegan product that retains the texture and taste that our consumers expect and love.”

If the plant-based chocolate bars prove popular in Germany, let’s hope they hit British shores sometime soon.
