Several people were injured, including a journalist, as anti-fascist protests turned violent at a city in the US.

Conservative writer Andy Ngo was attacked at the protest in Portland, Oregon yesterday.

Mr Ngo later shared pictures of him being treated in hospital with bruises, cuts and scratches on his face.

Demonstrators were accused of turning violent and throwing milkshakes at the protest.

Some milkshakes that were thrown may have contained “a substance similar to quick-drying cement,” police said.

According to local news outlet Oregon live, three people were arrested as protesters from the left and right held separate marches which culminated in clashes.

Police deployed pepper spray to disperse the crowds.

Eight people were treated for injuries, including three police officers.

The demonstrations came nearly a year to the day after protests broke out in violence.
