Love Island fans, fear not – it looks as if we will be getting a new series of the show this year…sort of.

The American series of the reality Goliath will hit ITV2 next month, with the series being forced to adapt to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of returning to the plush Fiji villa which was home to the cracking on and coupling up, the singletons will now be looking for love in the city of sin – Las Vegas.

Sequestered in a “bubble”, the “Islanders” will now have to graft at Caesars Entertainment’s boutique hotel, The Cromwell.

While the setting may be totally different, the Love Island format is very much the same. Host Arielle Vandenberg and narrator Matthew Hoffman will return to preside over the antics as the US hopefuls look for The One to be in with a chance of bagging $50,000.

Bagging Love Island USA is a win for ITV2, who were forced to pull its summer helping of Love Island as Covid-19 cases soared worldwide, resulting in borders closing and making the show impossible to film.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has also seen the winter version of Love Island, set in South Africa, also pulled from screens.

Speaking about the new Stateside series, Paul Mortimer, ITV’s Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions said: “We’re thrilled that ITV2 can bring the latest US version of Love Island to viewers this year.

“Las Vegas may seem like an odd destination for the show but the canny producers have beaten Covid with a show that adheres to all production protocols and that could well be sensational.

“Certainly the ‘villa’ is impressive and the cast diverse and amazing. We believe Love Island fans will embrace this Sin City twist, my bet is the series will be another big hit.”

To plug the Love Island-shaped gap in the schedules this summer, the explosive first series of Love Island: Australia aired on ITV2, having previously aired on ITV Be in 2018.

As well as the new American series, ITV2 is planning to air three-part spin-off series Love Islanders: What Happened Next?. Narrated by Iain Stirling, the show looks to celebrate "some of the amazing Islanders who have appeared on the nation's much loved programme over the past five years, and will catch up with their lives since their time in the famous villa".

Love Island USA airs from Monday September 7 at 9pm on ITV2
